Inquiry Based Learning – Year 8
The Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) units in the Year 8 program are designed to encourage students to become independent learners. Learning activities in IBL require students to perform their own research and apply their findings to complete set projects.
Students have the opportunity to work collaboratively in an open learning environment, sharing their ideas and taking responsibility for their own work. Classroom teachers supervise and monitor the progress of their students, though give students more freedom to work in their preferred style and pursue academic areas of interest.
The Semester 1 IBL unit focusses on ‘Change in Australia and Asia’ and the Semester 2 IBL focus is on ‘Sustainability’. The four main learning areas (English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science) are integrated into the IBL projects.
