Year 9 City Search Program
City Search is a program that engages Year 9 students through experiential learning, whereby the City of Melbourne becomes their “classroom” for one week. The City program essentially involves community-based learning and aims to foster student- led, collaborative learning and positive education.
Students develop skills in civics and citizenship, interpersonal skills and personal learning through participation in challenging workshops, conducting research in teams and presenting to their peers. Cross – curricula knowledge is developed from a range of subject areas, including Humanities, Maths, Science, Arts, Health and Personal Development.
Students are encouraged to “step outside their comfort zone” and experiment with their learning. For example, one of the workshops is at ACMI where students learn about clever marketing and about using language to persuade an audience. It is through such positive learning experiences that students develop into confident and inquiring learners.
