Instrumental Music

Learning an instrument and studying music has been proven by extensive research to benefit students at secondary schools both academically and socially. By learning an instrument students will join an ensemble that will provide a great way to make friends and can help them interact with students from many different year levels in what can be a difficult transition from primary to secondary level.

Bentleigh Secondary College has had great success with its music program over the past twelve years, and the standard of our ensembles continues to improve. There is something for everyone in our vibrant music program: from the year 7 band for beginners, through to the senior symphonic wind ensemble, vocal group as well as jazz and rock bands.

A recruitment night is held at the beginning of term one. All year 7 students and parents are strongly encouraged to attend the night to learn about the music program, try out all the instruments on offer and meet instrumental music teachers. Parents can also familiarise themselves with the music department and meet the Head of Music.
